Did You Know? #29: A Gentle Touch Helps Keep Your Flowers Beautiful
Written by Petal Perfection Flower Company
Fresh flowers invite a closer look. Their soft petals, beautiful colors, and intricate shapes are part of what makes them so special. But those delicate blooms appreciate a little personal space!
Pressure, rubbing, and rough handling can bruise flower petals. Giving your arrangement room and handling it carefully can help protect its appearance.
Move the Container, Not the Flowers
When moving an arrangement, support the vase or container securely from underneath. Avoid lifting it by the stems, grabbing the flower heads, or pulling on the greenery.
For larger or heavier arrangements, use both hands and clear a space before setting the flowers down.
Give Your Blooms Some Breathing Room
Choose a spot where the flowers won’t press against a wall, curtain, cabinet, or other objects. A crowded countertop or busy walkway can leave delicate petals vulnerable to repeated bumps.
An arrangement should have enough room for you to enjoy its shape without squeezing the blooms into place.
Unwrap Flowers Carefully
If your flowers arrive with protective wrapping, open it gently rather than dragging it across the flower heads. Support the bouquet by its stems while removing the packaging, and avoid squeezing the blooms.
If your florist has provided a travel box, keep the container supported while lifting it out.
Resist the Urge to Keep Adjusting
It can be tempting to straighten every bloom or repeatedly rearrange the flowers. Keep adjustments gentle and handle stems rather than pinching petals.
If you’ve received a professionally designed arrangement, you can usually place it in its display spot and enjoy it with minimal handling.
A Little Care Goes a Long Way
At Petal Perfection Flower Company, we put care into every arrangement, from selecting the flowers to placing the finishing touches. Gentle handling at home helps protect that beautiful work.
