Did You Know? #23: Your Flowers Need a Cool Ride Home!

You’ve selected a beautiful flower arrangement, and now it’s time to bring it home—or surprise someone special. But did you know that how you transport fresh flowers can affect how they look when they arrive?

Fresh-cut flowers need hydration and protection from heat. Flower-care guidance from Chrysal emphasizes keeping flowers fresh and hydrated during transportation, then away from heat and direct sunlight once displayed.

At Petal Perfection Flower Company, we want you to enjoy your flowers from the moment they arrive. Whether you’re carrying birthday flowers across Tampa, bringing an anniversary bouquet to Apollo Beach, or taking a centerpiece to a gathering in Sun City Center, a little preparation helps protect your beautiful blooms.

Picking up flowers before groceries, lunch, and several other errands can leave your arrangement waiting in a warm vehicle.

Our practical recommendation: collect your flowers near the end of your trip and head directly to your destination. Bring them inside promptly when you arrive.

This is especially helpful when transporting fresh flower arrangements around Tampa Bay, including Ruskin, Riverview, Brandon, Valrico, Wimauma, and Parrish.

Before placing your bouquet or vase arrangement inside, let the air conditioning cool the passenger compartment.

Choose a shaded, secure position where the flowers won’t sit against a sun-heated window. Keep delicate petals away from a strong stream of air from the vents.

Think of the trip as part of your flower-care routine: a comfortable ride helps your arrangement reach its destination looking its best.

A sharp turn or sudden stop can tip a vase, spill water, and damage delicate blooms.

If your florist provides a travel box, use it to support the container during the journey. Position the arrangement upright on a stable surface and secure the box against sliding.

Avoid placing bags, packages, or other items against the flowers. Roses, peonies, hydrangeas, and other fresh blooms deserve a little breathing room!

At Petal Perfection Flower Company, our wrapping and travel boxes help protect arrangements during their trip. Keep that support in place until you reach your destination.

A wrapped bouquet and a vase arrangement have different needs when they arrive.

For a hand-tied or wrapped bouquet:

Remove the transport packaging before arranging the flowers.

Follow the supplied instructions for trimming the stems.

Place the bouquet in a clean vase with water and flower food mixed according to the packet directions.

For flowers already arranged in a vase, check the water level after transportation and follow the care instructions included with your arrangement. Chrysal’s fresh-cut flower guidance recommends removing packaging, preparing the stems, and using the included flower food.

If you’re bringing flowers to a restaurant, office, hotel, or celebration, arrange for someone to receive them promptly.

A little coordination helps keep birthday bouquets, romantic roses, thank-you flowers, and special occasion arrangements from waiting outside or inside a vehicle.

The flower-care tip to remember: plan the trip as carefully as you plan the gift.
