As the Flower Blooms Episode 6: The Ghost of Gardens Past

Previously on As the Flower Blooms…

A mysterious message appeared in the floral design studio of Petal Perfection Flower Company.

A frightened Lily knew more than she was willing to admit.

The Hydrangeas were whispering.

Daisy was investigating.

And Rose finally revealed a name she had hoped never to hear again.

Camellia.

But who was Camellia?

And why did the very mention of her name make Rose's petals tremble?

A Name From the Past

The studio was silent.

Not the peaceful silence of a quiet morning surrounded by beautiful fresh flowers.

No.

This was the kind of silence that happens when someone says something they probably shouldn't have.

Peony stared at Rose.

"Camellia?" she repeated.

Rose looked away.

Daisy leaned forward.

"Camellia who?"

Rose said nothing.

"Camellia from where?"

Still nothing.

"Camellia with the really shiny leaves?"

"Daisy!" Peony snapped.

"What? I'm trying to narrow it down!"

From their corner of the worktable, the Hydrangeas began whispering.

"We've heard that name before."

"Yes, we have."

"Something about a greenhouse."

"A very expensive greenhouse."

"And a scandal."

Rose spun around.

"THERE WAS NO SCANDAL!"

The entire studio froze.

Daisy blinked.

"Well, now I'm absolutely certain there was a scandal."

The Garden Rose Left Behind

Rose lowered her head.

"Camellia and I grew up in the same garden," she finally admitted.

Peony gasped.

"You knew each other?"

"We were practically sisters."

The Hydrangeas leaned closer.

"Practically?"

Rose sighed.

"We were both raised in a beautiful private greenhouse. The finest water. The best nutrients. Perfect temperatures. Everything a flower could possibly want."

Daisy looked impressed.

"Sounds lovely."

"It was," Rose whispered. "Until the competition."

Peony's petals fluttered.

"What competition?"

Rose stared into the distance.

"The Annual Garden Showcase."

The Hydrangeas gasped.

"Not the Showcase!"

Daisy looked confused.

"What's the Showcase?"

The Hydrangeas exchanged horrified looks.

"Only the most prestigious floral competition in the entire garden!"

Rose continued.

"Camellia was supposed to win. Everyone expected it. She had the perfect leaves, the perfect blooms, and the perfect reputation."

"But?" Peony asked.

Rose hesitated.

"But I won."

Silence.

Then Daisy whispered:

"Oh, this is better than television."

Lily's Secret Begins to Unravel

From beside the clean glass vase, Lily suddenly spoke.

"That's not the whole story."

Rose turned sharply.

"What did you say?"

Lily's white petals trembled.

"I said… that's not the whole story."

Peony looked between them.

"Lily, how would you know?"

Lily looked toward the open studio doorway.

"Because I was there."

The Hydrangeas practically fell into their bucket.

"SHE WAS THERE!"

Daisy gasped.

"Wait a minute. How old are you?"

Lily glared at her.

"That's not important."

"Well, it seems important."

"Daisy!"

"Fine!"

Lily continued.

"Camellia didn't lose because Rose was more beautiful."

Rose's expression changed.

"Don't."

Lily swallowed.

"She lost because someone tampered with her water."

The studio went completely silent.

A Dangerous Secret Beneath the Water

Peony looked horrified.

"Her water?"

Lily nodded.

"Her container hadn't been properly cleaned. Old leaves had been left below the waterline. The water became cloudy, and her condition deteriorated before the competition."

Daisy gasped.

"Someone sabotaged her vase?"

"We don't know that," Rose replied quickly.

"But you suspected it," Lily whispered.

Rose looked away.

And suddenly, the Hydrangeas had something even more interesting to discuss.

"Dirty water…"

"Decaying leaves…"

"A ruined competition…"

"A mysterious ribbon…"

"This is practically a botanical crime scene!"

Today's Flower Care Secret: Keep Leaves Out of the Water!

While our floral friends may be caught up in a dramatic mystery, there's a real flower-care lesson hidden beneath all that gossip.

Did you know that leaving foliage below the waterline can shorten the vase life of fresh-cut flowers?

Leaves submerged in vase water can begin to decay, encouraging bacterial growth. Excessive bacteria can interfere with water uptake and contribute to flowers wilting prematurely.

That's why professional florists carefully prepare flower stems before placing them into arrangements.

For better flower longevity:

Remove leaves that would sit below the waterline.

Always start with a thoroughly cleaned vase.

Use fresh water and professional flower food according to the directions.

Recut stems with clean, sharp floral tools.

Replace cloudy water promptly and clean the vase.

Keep arrangements away from direct sunlight, excessive heat, and drafts.

Whether you're caring for roses, lilies, hydrangeas, daisies, carnations, or a beautiful mixed bouquet, these simple flower-care tips can help your fresh flowers stay beautiful longer.

At Petal Perfection Flower Company, proper flower care is an important part of creating beautiful, professionally designed floral arrangements for our Tampa Bay customers.

Because beautiful flowers deserve more than a pretty vase.

They deserve proper care.

The Letter That Changed Everything

Back in the studio, Rose was visibly shaken.

"I never touched Camellia's water," she insisted.

Lily nodded slowly.

"I know."

Peony looked confused.

"Then why are you so frightened?"

Lily hesitated.

"Because Camellia doesn't believe you."

Daisy stepped closer.

"How do you know what Camellia believes?"

Lily lowered her eyes.

"Because she sent me."

Rose froze.

The Hydrangeas gasped so loudly that several tiny blossoms shook loose.

"SHE SENT HER!"

Peony whispered, "Lily… you've been working for Camellia?"

Lily began to tremble.

"Not exactly."

Daisy narrowed her eyes.

"That sounds suspiciously like exactly."

Lily looked toward the studio doorway.

"Camellia told me to find Rose. She said Rose had something that belonged to her."

Rose shook her head.

"That's impossible."

But Lily continued.

"She said you'd know what she meant."

Rose suddenly went pale beneath her deep red petals.

"No."

Peony stepped closer.

"Rose? What is it?"

Rose stared at the mysterious paper lying on the worktable.

Then she whispered:

"The golden key."

The Hydrangeas Make a Discovery

The Hydrangeas immediately began whispering.

"A key?"

"A golden key?"

"To what?"

"Perhaps a greenhouse?"

"Perhaps a treasure?"

"Perhaps a locked flower cooler?"

Daisy rolled her eyes.

"Honestly, you two need a hobby."

Just then, a soft metallic sound came from beneath the worktable.

Clink.

Everyone froze.

Clink.

Peony slowly looked down.

Something was moving beneath a pile of ribbon.

Rose stepped backward.

Lily covered her mouth.

Daisy leaned forward.

And there, partially hidden beneath a length of white satin ribbon, was a small golden key.

Attached to it was a tiny tag.

Three words were written on the tag.

SHE KNOWS EVERYTHING.

Rose stared at it.

"That's impossible."

Lily whispered:

"She's coming."

To Be Continued…

Who really tampered with Camellia's water?

Why did Rose win the Garden Showcase?

What does the mysterious golden key unlock?

And most importantly…

Who is coming to Petal Perfection Flower Company?

The secrets are growing.

The Hydrangeas are gossiping.

Daisy is investigating.

And Rose's past is about to bloom into something nobody expected.
