As the Flower Blooms — Episode 5: The Flower From Rose’s Past

Written by Petal Perfection Flower Company

The flowers have secrets. The florist knows the truth… every bloom has a story.

There are some secrets that wilt with time.

And then there are secrets that refuse to die.

Inside the elegant floral design studio at Petal Perfection Flower Company, the morning began unusually quietly. The buckets were filled with fresh flowers, the cooler hummed softly, and the scent of roses, lilies, peonies, and hydrangeas filled the studio.

But something was different.

The flowers were nervous.

Very nervous.

Especially Rose.

The deep red rose stood near the worktable, staring at the small white ribbon that had appeared in the studio the day before.

The message was still there.

“They found us.”

Rose's petals tightened.

Peony noticed.

“Rose?” she whispered. “Are you all right?”

“I've never been better,” Rose replied.

Daisy looked at her suspiciously.

“You're a rose. You're literally standing at attention.”

Rose sighed.

“Fine. I'm worried.”

From the corner came the soft whispering of the Hydrangeas.

“We knew it…”

“We knew something was coming…”

“We always know…”

“Usually before everyone else…”

Peony looked at them.

“Would you two please stop being mysterious for five minutes?”

The Hydrangeas rustled.

“No.”

Lily Knows More Than She's Saying

Nearby, the elegant white Lily was recovering from her difficult first days in the studio.

Rose had taken special care of her.

A clean vase.

Fresh water.

Freshly trimmed stems.

Proper flower food.

And, most importantly, a location away from heat, drafts, direct sunlight, and ripening fruit.

Lily was beginning to regain her strength.

But there was something Rose couldn't understand.

Every time the mysterious ribbon was mentioned, Lily became visibly nervous.

“You know who sent it, don't you?” Rose asked.

Lily looked away.

“I might.”

Rose stepped closer.

“Lily.”

“I said I might.”

Daisy leaned toward Peony.

“This is getting good.”

Peony whispered back.

“This is a flower shop, Daisy.”

“I know.”

“Not a television drama.”

Daisy smiled.

“Tell that to Rose.”

The Secret of Fresh Flowers

Rose finally turned her attention back to Lily.

“If you're going to stay here, you need to understand something.”

Lily nodded.

“Fresh flowers don't get second chances very often.”

Rose pointed toward the vase.

“Dirty water can shorten the life of cut flowers. Bacteria can build up quickly, especially when old water, flower debris, and decaying foliage are left sitting in the vase.”

Lily looked at the perfectly clean water.

“So that's why you changed mine.”

“Exactly.”

Rose continued.

“Keeping a vase clean is one of the simplest ways to help flowers last longer. Clean vase. Fresh water. Properly trimmed stems. Flower food. Those things matter.”

Peony nodded.

“So all those little things really do make a difference?”

Rose smiled.

“They can make a very big difference.”

Florist Tip: Give Your Flowers a Clean Start

When you bring fresh flowers home, don't simply add water to an old vase.

For the longest-lasting flowers:

Wash the vase thoroughly before using it.

Use fresh, clean water.

Remove foliage that would sit below the water line.

Recut the flower stems with a clean, sharp tool.

Use professional flower food according to the directions.

Change the water regularly.

Keep flowers away from extreme heat, direct sunlight, heating and cooling vents, and ripening fruit.

It sounds simple.

Because it is.

But simple flower care habits can make a noticeable difference in the life of your bouquet.

Then Daisy Found Something

Just as Rose finished explaining the importance of proper flower care, Daisy suddenly gasped.

“Everyone!”

The entire studio turned.

Daisy was staring beneath the worktable.

“What?”

“I found something.”

Peony hurried over.

The Hydrangeas leaned as far forward as their stems would allow.

Rose froze.

Daisy carefully pulled out a small piece of paper.

There was a single word written on it.

ROSE.

The studio went silent.

Rose stared at the paper.

“Where did you find that?”

“Under the table.”

“When?”

“Just now.”

Rose took a step backward.

“I thought that part of my life was over.”

Lily looked frightened.

“What part?”

Rose didn't answer.

Instead, she stared toward the studio entrance.

And then she whispered:

“Apparently, it isn't.”

The Hydrangeas Find the Clue

The Hydrangeas began whispering furiously.

“We knew it…”

“This isn't about Lily…”

“It's about Rose…”

“Something happened before she came here…”

Peony looked at Rose.

“What happened?”

Rose remained silent.

Daisy, however, wasn't giving up.

She examined the paper again.

“There are flower petals on it.”

Everyone looked closer.

There were three tiny petals attached to the paper.

One was red.

One was white.

And one was lavender.

The Hydrangeas gasped.

“Lavender…”

“That's our color…”

Peony looked from the petals to Rose.

“Rose, who is this person?”

Rose slowly lowered her head.

“I was hoping I'd never have to say her name again.”

Lily whispered:

“Who?”

Rose finally answered.

“Camellia.”

Everyone stared at her.

Even the Hydrangeas stopped whispering.

To Be Continued…

Rose had a past.

Lily knew more than she was saying.

The Hydrangeas had discovered a clue.

And now a mysterious flower named Camellia appeared to be connected to all of it.

But who is Camellia?

Why did she leave a message for Rose?

And what does Lily know?

Most importantly…

Why did she find Petal Perfection Flower Company?

The answers may be hidden somewhere among the flowers.

And around here, flowers have a funny way of revealing secrets.
