🌹 As The Flower Blooms Episode 3: The Visitor in the Shadows

Written by Petal Perfection Flower Company

The flowers have secrets. The florist knows the truth. And at Petal Perfection Flower Company… every bloom has a story.

Previously on As The Flower Blooms…

Peony was struggling to open.

Rose was acting strangely.

Daisy was being Daisy.

And the Hydrangeas?

Well… the Hydrangeas knew something was going on.

In Episode 2, The Secret in the Rose Garden, Rose insisted she wasn't hiding anything.

Nobody believed her.

Especially not the Hydrangeas.

Then, just as the questions were beginning to pile up, the door to the Petal Perfection floral design studio opened.

Someone had arrived.

Someone Rose clearly knew.

And judging by the look on Rose's face…

This wasn't an ordinary flower delivery.

Episode 3: The Visitor in the Shadows

Morning sunlight streamed through the windows of the Petal Perfection floral design studio.

Buckets of fresh flowers stood everywhere.

Roses were being conditioned.

Hydrangeas were soaking up water.

Daisies were standing tall and cheerful.

And Peony…

Peony was finally beginning to open.

She had spent the better part of the previous day worrying that she would never bloom.

But after being placed in a clean vase with fresh water, properly trimmed stems, flower food, and a little patience…

She was beginning to show her true beauty.

Unfortunately, Peony wasn't paying much attention to herself.

She was watching Rose.

Very carefully.

Rose stood near the back worktable, pretending to arrange a collection of fresh roses.

But every few seconds…

She looked toward the door.

Then toward the Hydrangeas.

Then back toward the door.

Peony noticed.

The Hydrangeas noticed.

And, naturally…

Daisy noticed absolutely everything.

🌼 Daisy:

"Okay, Rose. You've looked at that door seventeen times."

Rose froze.

🌹 Rose:

"I have no idea what you're talking about."

🌼 Daisy:

"Seventeen."

🌹 Rose:

"You counted?"

🌼 Daisy:

"Of course I counted."

Daisy leaned closer.

🌼 Daisy:

"I count everything."

The Hydrangeas rustled suspiciously.

💠 Hydrangeas:

"She's hiding something."

🌹 Rose:

"I am NOT hiding anything."

💠 Hydrangeas:

"That's exactly what someone hiding something would say."

Rose rolled her eyes.

🌹 Rose:

"You Hydrangeas have far too much time on your hands."

💠 Hydrangeas:

"We don't have hands."

A brief silence filled the studio.

🌼 Daisy:

"That was actually a very good point."

Peony tried not to laugh.

She failed.

🌸 Peony:

"Maybe we should just leave Rose alone."

The entire studio went silent.

Everyone turned toward Peony.

Peony immediately looked nervous.

🌸 Peony:

"What?"

🌼 Daisy:

"Did Peony just defend Rose?"

💠 Hydrangeas:

"Interesting."

Rose slowly looked at Peony.

For the first time that morning, her expression softened.

🌹 Rose:

"Thank you, Peony."

Peony smiled.

But then…

KNOCK. KNOCK.

Every flower froze.

Rose's smile disappeared.

The Hydrangeas leaned forward.

Daisy nearly fell out of her container.

🌼 Daisy:

"THAT'S THE PERSON!"

🌹 Rose:

"Daisy!"

🌼 Daisy:

"What? We all know it is!"

Rose hurried toward the door.

🌹 Rose:

"Nobody say anything."

🌼 Daisy:

"About what?"

🌹 Rose:

"Anything."

🌼 Daisy:

"That's going to be difficult."

Rose opened the door.

A shadow appeared across the floor.

The mysterious visitor stepped inside.

Rose stared.

The visitor stared back.

Neither said a word.

The Hydrangeas were practically shaking with excitement.

💠 Hydrangeas:

"We knew it!"

🌹 Rose:

"Keep your voices down!"

🌼 Daisy:

"Who is it?"

🌹 Rose:

"Daisy."

🌼 Daisy:

"Yes?"

🌹 Rose:

"Please stop asking questions."

🌼 Daisy:

"Okay."

A pause.

🌼 Daisy:

"Who is it?"

Rose closed her eyes.

🌹 Rose:

"Honestly…"

Peony watched from across the room.

Something about the visitor seemed familiar.

Not familiar in the way Rose knew them.

Familiar in the way that made Peony feel as though she had seen that flower before.

But where?

And why had Rose been keeping this visitor a secret?

Meanwhile… in the Flower Cooler

The Hydrangeas were holding an emergency meeting.

💠 Hydrangea #1:

"We need information."

💠 Hydrangea #2:

"Agreed."

💠 Hydrangea #3:

"Someone should investigate."

Everyone looked at Daisy.

Daisy looked offended.

🌼 Daisy:

"Why is everyone looking at me?"

💠 Hydrangeas:

"Because you can't keep a secret."

🌼 Daisy:

"That's not true."

A pause.

🌼 Daisy:

"I can keep a secret."

Another pause.

🌼 Daisy:

"For approximately twelve seconds."

The Hydrangeas sighed.

💠 Hydrangeas:

"Fine. We'll do it ourselves."

🌹 Back in the Design Studio…

Rose stood beside the mysterious visitor.

🌹 Rose:

"You shouldn't have come here."

The visitor remained silent.

🌹 Rose:

"I told you it wasn't safe."

Peony's eyes widened.

Safe?

What could Rose possibly mean?

🌸 Peony:

"Rose…?"

Rose turned.

🌹 Rose:

"Peony, please."

🌸 Peony:

"Is everything okay?"

Rose hesitated.

🌹 Rose:

"Not exactly."

Daisy's eyes grew enormous.

🌼 Daisy:

"I KNEW IT!"

🌹 Rose:

"Daisy!"

🌼 Daisy:

"Sorry."

She whispered.

🌼 Daisy:

"I knew it."

Rose looked back toward the visitor.

🌹 Rose:

"Some flowers don't belong where everyone expects them to."

Peony frowned.

🌸 Peony:

"What does that mean?"

Rose didn't answer.

Instead, she gently touched one of the visitor's petals.

🌹 Rose:

"Sometimes a flower needs somewhere safe to bloom."

Peony suddenly understood.

Maybe this wasn't about a secret romance.

Maybe Rose wasn't hiding a lover.

Maybe she was protecting someone.

Someone who needed help.

Someone who needed time.

Someone who needed the right conditions to bloom.

Just like Peony.

🌸 The Flower-Care Lesson

Peony looked at Rose thoughtfully.

🌸 Peony:

"So… you're protecting them?"

Rose nodded.

🌹 Rose:

"Yes."

🌸 Peony:

"Because they're not ready?"

🌹 Rose:

"Because they're not ready yet."

The Hydrangeas slowly emerged from the cooler.

💠 Hydrangeas:

"We heard everything."

Rose sighed.

🌹 Rose:

"Of course you did."

💠 Hydrangeas:

"We're very good listeners."

🌼 Daisy:

"You're also very good eavesdroppers."

💠 Hydrangeas:

"That too."

Rose smiled.

🌹 Rose:

"Flowers don't all bloom at the same time."

Everyone became quiet.

🌹 Rose:

"Some roses open quickly. Some take their time. Some flowers need extra care. Some need the right temperature, clean water, fresh flower food, properly trimmed stems and a little patience."

Peony smiled.

🌸 Peony:

"And some just need someone to believe they'll bloom."

Rose looked at her.

🌹 Rose:

"Exactly."

The room became quiet.

Even Daisy.

For approximately three seconds.

🌼 Daisy:

"So… can somebody PLEASE tell me who the mysterious visitor is?"

Everyone groaned.

🌺 To Be Continued…

The mysterious visitor remained hidden from view.

But Peony knew one thing for certain.

Rose wasn't hiding something because she was ashamed.

She was hiding something because she was protecting someone.

And whatever Rose was protecting…

It was about to change everything at Petal Perfection Flower Company.

The Hydrangeas knew it.

Daisy suspected it.

Peony felt it.

And Rose?

Rose was terrified.

Who is the mysterious flower?

Why is Rose protecting them?

And what happens when the rest of the flowers discover the truth?

Find out in Episode 4 of As The Flower Blooms.

For longer-lasting fresh flowers:

Always start with a clean vase.
