🌹 As the Flower Blooms Episode 16 — The Secret Beneath the Ivory Petal
Written by Petal Perfection Flower Company
The rain had finally stopped.
Inside the flower studio, the morning sunlight filtered through the tall windows, illuminating the delicate petals of the flowers gathered around the walnut worktable.
But no one seemed interested in the beautiful morning.
All eyes were on Ruby.
Rose's long-lost sister had returned the previous evening, appearing at the rain-covered window with an exhausted expression and a single ivory streak along one crimson petal.
And now, after a night filled with questions, she was finally ready to speak.
"Before I tell you what happened," Ruby whispered, "there's something you need to understand."
Peony leaned closer.
"Ruby, you've been missing for years. Rose believed you were gone forever. What could possibly be more important than telling us where you've been?"
Ruby lowered her petals.
"Because I wasn't the one who disappeared."
Silence fell over the studio.
Rose stared at her sister.
"What do you mean?"
Ruby looked toward the antique keepsake box resting beside the old photograph.
"Someone made sure you believed I was gone."
Daisy gasped.
Hydrangea's lavender blossoms trembled.
And from the far corner of the worktable, Lily spoke for the first time that morning.
"Then it's true."
Everyone turned.
Rose narrowed her eyes.
"What do you know, Lily?"
The white oriental lily hesitated.
"I heard something years ago. Something about a promise, a transfer, and a flower who was never supposed to return."
Ruby's expression changed.
"You knew?"
"Not everything," Lily replied. "But I knew there was a reason the ledger was hidden."
Daisy hurried toward the old book, still bound with its faded lavender ribbon.
"The ledger!" she exclaimed. "We never finished looking through it!"
Peony carefully opened its worn pages.
There were names, dates, and entries written in beautiful, sloping handwriting.
Then, tucked between two pages, something slipped onto the table.
A single dried ivory rose petal.
Rose froze.
"That petal..."
Ruby moved closer.
"Do you recognize it?"
Rose's voice was barely audible.
"Mother used to keep ivory roses in the window. She said they represented promises that could never be broken."
Ruby closed her eyes.
"Then she left us one final promise."
Beneath the delicate petal was a folded piece of paper, so small it had nearly disappeared into the binding.
Daisy carefully unfolded it.
The handwriting was faded, but the message remained legible.
When the two crimson roses stand together again, the truth must be told. The one who holds the golden key is not the one who owns the secret.
Peony looked toward the antique golden key lying beside the keepsake box.
"Then who does?"
No one answered.
Suddenly, Camellia, who had been unusually quiet near the doorway, spoke.
"I think I know."
Rose turned sharply.
"Camellia?"
The blush-colored bloom lowered her gaze.
"There's something I haven't told any of you."
Ruby stared at her.
"You were there that night."
Camellia's petals trembled.
"Yes."
Rose stepped forward.
"What night?"
Camellia looked from one sister to the other.
"The night your mother disappeared."
The studio fell completely silent.
Then Ruby spoke, her voice shaking.
"Camellia, please don't."
But Camellia had already made her decision.
"Your mother didn't leave you," she whispered. "She was taken away."
Rose felt as though the entire world had stopped.
"Taken? By whom?"
Camellia slowly turned toward the old photograph.
And with one trembling petal, she pointed to a flower standing almost unnoticed in the background.
"By someone you've trusted all along."
